The Most Comprehensive and Up-to-date

History
of
Blackpool and the Fylde

  is

HERE

For what is the Largest internet

town history in Britain.

I am now up to Version IX of the Main File, and

the Website is getting over 720 hits per month.

This is the Best and Most up-to-date history of Blackpool and the Fylde. It relates to local people, and is not just about Blackpool - at the end of each yearly section, there is information on the rest of the Fylde too.

From Harold the Elk to LennyBennett - it's all in here!

I have had even more excellent feedback about the site and the main book/file, but still need MORE information.

If you have any additions, or if you find anything you want to take issue with, please let me know - with proof!  I am updating and expanding the history continually, and hope to make it a "standard" research tool for others.

To read the complete file simply click above. It is in chronological order, listing what was built and what happened in each year. By all means, read the whole thing if you wish - I can guarantee that you will find something that you didn't know before. It will also save you from having to trawl through all kinds of documents for information (but that's fun too!)

NEW CONTENT in the main file!

There are other pages on this site with interesting facts on our town - just look at the menu on the right, and don't forget, if you want more detail on any entry, check out the Main File.
You can also use the search facility in the Main File to find such things as: what used to be where Woolworths is today, who was mayor in a certain year, etc.  For example, if you wanted find out when the Boots fire was, simply enter "Boots" into the "FIND" box (or click on the binoculars icon - in older versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader) and skip through until you find the entry about the fire - try it and see!

If in doubt - root about!! And don't forget

Come Here First

But don't forget to keep reading the proper printed books as well, for more details.  I suspect that they will still be there after the Internet has morphed into something else!  The first edition of the book has been printed by Blackpool Libraries, and the only copy can be read in the Local History Centre
