General Advice – a bit of info worth reading
This Marketplace is intended for the communities in Blackpool to have a free service to sell their unwanted goods - we cannot accept ads placed by regular Traders and Retailers. Because of this, individuals using the Marketplace could possibly be outside some controls of consumer law.
But beware - there are rules and if, for example, you described goods in a way that was misleading and untrue then you could be obliged to provide a refund, replace or drop the price to reflect the misrepresentation.
Handling stolen goods is against the law and if you are found to have sold stolen goods the buyer is entitled to a refund from you, not the thief!
There are other danger areas as well – some goods have safety standards when sold by Traders and care should be taken when selling or buying these goods. Examples would be Prams and Pushchairs; Electric Fires and Blankets; Irons and Heaters both Oil and Paraffin. You could have these items checked out before selling.
If selling nightwear make sure it meets flammability requirements and any other clothes with cords or ties could also form a hazard – you must think about all of these things. Toys are another area of concern, small parts can be pulled off and there might be sharp points. If you still have its original packaging bearing the warnings, sell the goods in that packaging.
The Blackpool4Me Marketplace cannot allow selling food items but they are not the only goods that can become contaminated - so if you are considering unwanted Cosmetics make sure the seals are intact before selling or buying.
This list is not definitive but should give you an idea of things to consider when buying or selling unwanted possessions. Blackpool4Me won’t police the points raised above, we have already said that we only provide the facility and won’t get involved in any matter or dispute, but make sure you act responsibly using our service. Thanks.
