The Filipino British Lancashire Association UK (FilBrit) was proud to present Blackpool’s Second Barrio Fiesta! Barrio Fiesta translates as a neighbourhood party. It is a Filipino tradition that brings together family and neighbours in a day of celebration.
Blackpool’s Second Barrio Fiesta proved to be a great day for everyone involved, despite last minute changes! It was a day of dancing & singing and a mingling together of different cultures, ages and groups. A variety of different acts took to the stage – from traditional cultural dancing and music to salsa.
There were various commercial stalls allowing visitors to try something new and enjoy traditional Filipino dishes. There were also opportunities to buy some dry goods from the Philippines.
An information centre allowed visitors to learn all about the Philippines. There were also a variety of community groups and services there – raising money for charity, awareness raising and giving out useful information. For the children there bouncy castles, donkey rides and face painting.
The Filipino Ambassador and Consul General also came to enjoy the event – alongside Deputy Mayor – Councillor Tony Lee and his wife, who welcomed guests to the event.
All in all, the day was a great success, thankfully, it didn’t rain.
Thank you to everybody that got involved in any way.
