Martin Smith President of British Bee Keepers Association presents Pat Beaton with The Bill Poole Trophy for the Best Jar of Honey and The Napthen Trophy for the exhibitor gaining most points in the Honey section.First a big thanks to all our supporters, members and visitors.Saturday was probably the quietest with weather predictions and an
early down pour putting people off venturing out. Never the less we
still managed to gain 240 signatures for the BBKA Reasearch Campaign
http://www.britishbee.org.uk/bbka_research_campaign.php. Christine managed to sell all her Cumbrian honey and along with Pat gave a skep making
demonstration.
Sunday, better weather from the start and the sunshine continued all
day. Visitors numbers as expected increased as did honey sales. We
dedicated a desk for petition signing and added a further 320
signatures. We ran out of stickers a couple of hours before the end
which means we had more than 500 children visit. Also 450 leaflets
printed by our sponsor, Big Funky Pictures
http://www.bigfunkypictures.com/ were handed out to interested
parties which will hopefully provoke further interest and membership.
Martin Smith President of the British Bee Keepers Association also
donned a sticker and helped on Sunday afternoon. He was very impressed
with the stand and hopefully enjoyed talking with our members and
visitors.
The Honey Show proved also to be a great success with several non
members entering. Denis Atkinson enjoyed judging and has already
offered his services for next year. Now that we know people are
interested, more classes will be included for
next year. Having the whole tent to ourselves this year created much
needed space for visitor circulation, all the displays and the
observation hives.
