Welcome to the home page of the Blackpool & Fylde Beekeepers Association. Local existing members come from Fleetwood, Lytham, Blackpool, Kirkham, Poulton, Hambleton, Pilling and Garstang but we welcome everyone.
In our monthly meetings we have talks from experts on beekeeping, biology, natural history, flora and fauna, microscopy, entomology and of course associated products such as honey and wax. Bees need our help because they under threat from climate change, modern farming methods, environmental pressures plus various pests and diseases. Nearly all the honey bees that you might come across will be from a managed hive. There are almost certainly no wild honey bees left in the wild the UK. Thank you to Stewart Beattie, Cumbrian Seasonal Bee Inspector helped us check for American and European Foul Brood using tester kits. Thankfully no disease was found.
Please come and see us on our stand at the Great Eccleston Agricultural Show on 18th-19th July 2009. Where we will be pleased to answer any of your bee related questions.
Our next meeting is on Sunday 26th July 2pm which is Out-Apiary Meeting at 29 Stockydale Road Marton Blackpool when Ray Dowson from Ormskirk beekeeping group will be telling us all about Queens and queen rearing.
Please remember to bring you veils.
