Who We Are
"Cycle Blackpool" is a group of local cycling enthusiasts, mostly Blackpool Council employees, their friends and families. We have people of varying abilities from the age of 16 upwards, focusing on the social, health and planet friendly aspects of cycling rather than the competitive aspects. Our aim is to encourage cycling in the Blackpool area.

  Welcome to Cycle Blackpool!

Myself Reg Storey and Gary Cox are both Blackpool Council employees and volunteer coordinators of Cycle Blackpool. This year and last, over 50 members of Cycle Blackpool joined in the Manchester to Blackpool cycle ride, organised by Bike Events. Some of the participants had never cycled more than 5 or 10 miles before, they joined us for some Tuesday evening training rides and within no time at all were pulling on their shorts for the 60 mile challenge. All who participated completed the ride, even if a little saddle sore, they all enjoyed a great day out and some raised money for local charities. Our vision is that more local people will join us, to enhance their own health, social circles and benefit from the cycling knowledge and enthusiasm that already exists within the town.
 Four years ago myself and Gary decided to cycle coast to coast, from Blackpool to Scarborough, we did this in two stages, spending the night in York and completed the ride from York to Scarborough on the second day. We could have trained more and suffered a little as a result, but the feeling of achievement at the end of it made it all worthwhile. That was the beginning of our true interest in cycling and we haven't looked back! We are now in the fortunate position of being able to promote cycling in Blackpool and intend to encourage as many people to get on their bikes as possible.  




It's not all fun you know! We raised £324 for the Blackpool's a Knockout appeal to raise money for a special childrens scanner in September 2007 for our Scarborough ride.
