Blackpool4Me updates

26th April 2007

All expired pages will be deleted after 95 days, for example you have a page for a particular item and you tell it to stop publishing on the 1st January because it is no longer relevant.  The page will remain in your site - but not visible except to you, in Edit mode.  By the second week in April that page will be deleted from the Blackpool4Me system and cease to exist.

We have done this to maximise server space and generally keep the site tidy

12th March 2007

We've made it easier for people to find what they want by

  • adding 'how to' notes to the SearchB4Me page
  • removing categories from the directory which currently have no channels in them
  • making it easier for Google (and other search engines) to find things in Blackpool4Me

A Countdown facility has been added to the homepage template so that you can add to it an automatic countdown to an important event. For more information please refer to "7. Using the Home pages template" in the Contents list.

      15th November 2006

The Channel Directory link at the top of every page has been renamed BrowseB4Me. The intention is to make its function more obvious to newcomers, but hope it didn't confuse you for too long when you first saw it. It still takes you to the same place - the channel directory!

      31st October 2006

      My Forums offers Help.

The Image Resizer only needs you to enter the width you want the image decreasing to. You can leave the height field empty.

      2nd October 2006

The Edit Console now appears in red, making it easier to distinguish from the background colours

The Contents of your channel are now listed in alphabetical order

In the Events Template you can enter dates directly into the box above the calendars, rather than having to use the calendars to select a date. Please use the recommended format for your date.

      19th September 2006

The News template now includes a wider selection of tools in the News Summary box, including a Spellchecker

      5th September 2006

Image Resizer offers an easy way to prepare your images for your channel pages. Just click on the last option on the Edit Console and follow the step-by-step instructions.

Discussion Forums are now available for your channel. To activate it go to Channel Features - Edit Page - tick Channel Forum - and Approve. Use of your forum is limited to registered users who apply to become members of your channel and are approved by you through Manage Channel Members. There are some notes about Forums under Help, but feel free to contact us at info4me@blackpool.gov.uk for an introductory session.

Your name in lights. Blackpool4Me now displays your channel name alongside Blackpool Tower (!), making it even more prominent. The welcome to you message now appears below the header (where your channel name used to appear).

      18th July 2006

The number of Latest Pages that you see listed when you click on "More Latest Pages" has been increased to a maximum of 100 split over 4 pages. So the latest pages from your channels will be listed for longer.

      6th July 2006

The size of the text boxes in the templates has been increased, and Comic Sans added as a font option.

      7th June 2006

      Channel Features
are now fully operational and you will have seen them in some channels in Blackpool4Me. Some channel managers won’t have had a familiarisation/training session about them. Please contact the team to arrange a short session to learn to use the Channel Features.

There has been a change to the bottom of some templates – you will see that there has been a box added “Include in Latest Pages”. This defaults to NO - when you are creating a page for the first time and publishing it in Blackpool4Me, change it to YES. If you re-edit a page at a later date, unless it has specific new information which needs to be in Latest Pages, leave it at NO.This has been added because we don’t want to get the same pages coming back time and time again - maybe because someone is refining their pages rather than posting new information.

Channel Managers Channel – in future all changes to the Blackpool4Me system will be outlined in the Channel Managers channel – which you will find in Learning then Training, or by clicking on Info for Channel Managers in the Contents list on the Blackpool4Me home page.

Please remember if you have any problems at all – you can always contact us on info4me@blackpool.gov.uk or phone 01253 478764.
