Looking at the Tools in the Page Templates

Updated 30 May 2006. Always check the website for the latest version of this page.

The main text boxes and all the image boxes in the page templates give you a range of tools that you can use to alter the appearance of your page or add additional features to it.

You can read about them in full by clicking on this link to the editor manual. Most of them are tools that you will be used to from programs like Word. Some of them, however, need a little more explanation:

Using the Image Manager to insert images into your page

  • Choose Image Manager from the options in the toolbar
  • Select the Local Image tab
  • Click on the Browse button to locate the image file you want on your page
  • When you find it, click on it to highlight it and select Open
  • Click on Insert to add it to your page
  • Preview if you wish, and Save/Exit/Submit when you are ready

Using the Insert Table tool

You can use this tool not only to insert a plain table, but also as a way of placing content to build a photo gallery or add a side bar to your page, for example.

Using the Hyperlink Manager tool to create a link from your page

To another page

  • Highlight the text you want to link from
  • Click on the Hyperlink Manager button on the toolbar
  • Use the drop-down list to change the Type to file
  • Click on the wheel at the end of the URL box
  • In the window that opens click on the plus (+) sign next to www.blackpool4me.com and continue doing the same to open blackpool4me, then a category, then a channel, until you reach the page you want to link to
  • Click on the page name and OK it to add its name to the URL box in the Hyperlink Manager
  • Use the drop-down list next to Target to choose the _blank option. This will open the linked page in a new small window rather than one that overlays the link page.
  • Click OK to complete the link

To another website

  • Highlight the text you want to link from
  • Click on the Hyperlink Manager button on the toolbar
  • In the URL box, after http://,  type or paste in the web address you want to link to, starting www.
  • Use the drop-down list next to Target to choose the _blank option. This will open the linked website in a new small window rather than one that overlays the link page.
  • OK it to create the link

Using the Format Stripper when copying and pasting text

You can copy and paste text from Word documents or web pages into a page in your channel, but it is good practice to "clean up" the result before you publish. Copying and pasting brings with it code that sits behind what you see on the screen, and can affect the way your page appears.

  • Highlight the text you have pasted in (or right-click in the text box and choose Select All)
  • Click on the Format Stripper button on the toolbar
  • Choose the "all HTML tags" option for a copied web page, or "Microsoft Word Formatting" for text from a Word document
  • Use the toolbar options to re-format your text to match the rest of your page
