Helping you in your digital choices

Helping you in your digital choices

This year is likely to be another record breaking one for Hi-TECH purchases at Christmas.  The word on the street is Nintendo and iPod will be the big draws this year.  Timely advice then for all of you potential purchasers across Blackpool, because that cash is not easily come by.  Waste no money or time in learning to make the money work for you by better understanding the world of technology.  It is not difficult, but it is confusing.....and its here, like it or not.

Sometimes there is no choice, you just plump for the offer in the shop (on a web site increasingly).  That said, most people do a little investigation before they part with hard-earned money, The things you might do?

  • Base decisions on something you have seen?
  • Go solely on price?
  • Listen to others experiences?
  • Buy a magazine?
  • Read reviews?
  • Trawl the shops
  • Ask a friend?
  • Approach an 'specialist'?
  • Stick a pin in a list?

We here at Blackpool4Me would love you, the Blackpool population to help each other. A forum will start up very soon that askes you to put you advice in writing online for others to be able to access.

When it comes to technology, none of us is expert in everything, but we are all wanting to ensure we get the best 'bang-for-our-buck'.  Certainly just grabbing the first thing off a shelf at the supermarket works, but actually its a little risky.  Over-egged. "hyped-up" marketing, flashy packaging, over reliance on 'specs' or specifications as well as "technical speak" and the tendency for retailers to push the thing they can most easily profit on are common pitfalls.

One place you can go is the internet....but beware the extra pitfalls of too much information and be cautious in your choice of supplier.  There are some really good ones out there, but equally there are some dire ones (tell me about it!)

PC Magazine annually surveys technoogy users and looks at a range of hi-tech digital products and services. It provides a one stop shop that has to be worth a look if you are thinking of buying:

  PCs (all types)

  Printers

  TVs

  Digital Cameras

  MP3/MP4 players

.....Games Consoles

......and much more.

Warning: This is a USA centric survey, but generally products are internationally available and the 20,000 plus responses are actually gathered from all over the world.  This is one of, if not THE biggest survey of its type, and it is about people's experiences of technology.  Just what Blackpool4Me is about - sharing your experiences with others.
