The Beatles were booed off stage when they appeared at Fleetwood Marine Hall on the 25th of August 1962. Central Pier producer Peter Webster saw them and turned them down for the next summer season - he “didn’t think much of them”!
The Beatles then played five Sunday concerts at the ABC in the 1964 season, followed by two at the Queen’s Theatre. Then, in 1964, the Beatles performed from Mike and Bernie Winters’ ITV networked Big Night Out show from the ABC Theatre on July the 19th, supported by the Kinks and the High Numbers (later called The Who).
Peter Webster must have been kicking himself.
When the Beatles film “Magical Mystery Tour” was released in 1967, Paul McCartney confirmed that it had been based upon their bus tours of the Illuminations.
