SUPPORT NEEDED
Have you ever thought about taking on an allotment? If you have and want to get a plot would it surprise you to know you could, possibly, have a five year wait?
Allotment Law states that Councils must strive to provide one plot for every 1,000 residencies. If 6 or more people approach the Council then land should be sought to give those residents a plot. There are more than 150 people on waiting lists in the Borough. To keep the lists to a minimum people are being allocated 1/2 plots instead of full ones. This is only a stop-gap measure.
The Blackpool Federation of Allotment Associations has, for many years, been working with Blackpool Borough Council to find ways to increase the number of plots within the Borough. Alas we have had no success.
Areas looked at have included some land in the North of the town, to accommodate the people of Bispham, Claremont and Anchorsholme whose nearest sites are in Layton. This alas has proved fruitless and one of the reasons given has been that the residents of the area are opposed to having allotments near their homes. We would be interested to hear the views of North Shore residents for ourselves.
Also, do you have land anywhere in the Borough which you feel may be put to use as allotments.
If you wish to offer your support, or have objections please could you contact the email for this site with your name, address, contact number and comments.
