MP’s Question Time in Wyre 15th July

Peter Mahtani Chairman & Gwynneth Mugonyi Vice Chairman
attended MP Question Time in Wyre.

Present were Paul Maynard MP Blackpool North & Cleveleys

and Eric Ollerenshaw MP Lancaster and Fleetwood.

The following question was submitted before the meeting by our Branch members Sandra Harding and Peter Mahtani

What reassurances can be given that local experienced clinicians/clinical leaders in such services as speech and language therapy and physiotherapy will not be axed in the spending reviews when the trusts are taken over by the Blackpool Hospital Trust’?

Paul: These are fundamental services. In the Blackpool area there is a communication delay in an increasingly complex world. I don’t think there will be any cuts in these areas.

Eric: The facts are the NHS is not being cut. There is a small increase over the next four years.

The last government wanted to seek efficiencies in the NHS with managers, doctors and nurses. We want to continue that. If GPs are in control there will be no cuts in the areas where there is demand.

Peter: We have experienced situations where experienced staff are replaced by younger ones.

Eric: Individual Trusts will have internal issues - if the doctors are making the decisions this should work.
