On Thursday
11th of September.
Blackpool
Fibromyalgia support group held a coffee afternoon in the Town Hall chambers as
part of National Fibromyalgia awareness week.
The event was
officially opened by the Mayor of Blackpool, Councillor Mary Smith and was attended
by the Mayoress, Julia Massey and Joan Humble M.P. who incidentally sits on the
Fibromyalgia all party parliamentary group.
Other
visitors included Sue Strafford-binks, the North West regional co ordinator and
her husband Chris plus several of Blackpool’s Councillors.
There were
times when there didn’t seem to be many people there, but because of the nature of a
coffee afternoon people came and went so on the day it totted up to quite a
respectable amount of people.
On a local
level, the raffle and tombola was a great success ( with over 35 superb prizes)
and with a cheque presented to us by Joan Humble M.P and a small cheque from a
local bank we should have enough to administer the group for another year.
I would like
to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped make the event a
success in both generating funds but
more importantly helping to raise the awareness of both the group and fibro
itself.
I would also
like to thank all the people who have been good enough to donate
either a raffle prize or, like Tesco's who contributed with the refreshments.
Without the generosity of these people and the people who actually put their
hands in their pockets groups like ours couldn’t exist.
Thank you everyone.
Here are some
of the pictures taken on the day.
