DISTRESS

If you are unable to keep your animal, and need to find a new home, click on our Rehome page.  If an allergy is causing you to rehome your dog or cat it is worth trying a product which neutralises the allegens - PETAL CLEANSE (avaiable from ebay or ww.petmeds.co.uk amongst others).  If used regularly by applying the liquid to the pet's fur with a cloth it can help in 90% of cases.  Some users have been able to reduce their own medication for allergies.  Used a few weeks prior t the visit of a person with allergies it can make their stay comfortable without disturbing your animal.

Responsible pet pownership includes making arrangements for if you should die.  Wood Green Animal Shelters has a service which has operated for many years, one names pets and their details are logged and a secure future is assured.  The new RSPCA Home for Life scheme seems to do the same, but is less rigid in its adherence to your wishes.  Read the small print about their decisions should you need more than one pet to be rehoused together.

Should your pet be lost, click on our Lost page

In cases of animal illness, contact a qualified vet, there is a list on our Home page

For some owners suffering the worry of sick animals already under a vet's care, the prayer below may give help.

Prayer to St Martin for Animals

Gentle Saint Martin, you loved the animals God gives to us in the wonders of creation.  Watch over the animals  our loving father has provided for our use and welfare.  Bless also our pets.  Intercede that all disease and harm may be averted since on them so much of our livelihood and joy depends.  Help us never to be cruel to them or neglectful of them,  May we always, following your example, attend to our daily tasks with gratitude and with ever growing love for God and for one another.  And may we know the joy of animals and pets kept safe by your powerful intercession.  We make this and all our prayers through Jesus Christ our Lord
Amen.

St Martin was a Dominican brother of mixed parentage born in Lima, Peru.  He was noted for his kindness and compassion to all - human and animal - even after his death his kindness continued in the form of many miracles.  He was revered by those he had helped long before the  Church canonised him and made him a saint.  The St Martin Apostolate in Dublin tries to continue his works of mercy by sending missionaries to areas of desperate poverty.
