Reflexology

Reflexology is the treatment of the feet using massage and firm pressure to balance the body.

Modern Reflexology has its roots in therapies performed by ancient tribes worldwide.  The first known documentation is of an Egyptian cave painting from about 2,300 BC.  It depicts a physicians treating the feet (and hands) of patients.

In the last century Dr William Fitzgerald discovered that when one part of the body was restricted it could affect other areas along the same longitudinal zone of the body, from this discovery he developed Zone Therapy.

His student, Eunice Ingham, developed this therapy by mapping out the soles of the feet to correspond to parts of the body to give us what we know as modern Reflexology.

The fundamental idea of Reflexology is that the body is mirrored in the soles of the feet.  Problems from other areas of the body are reflected here.

The basis of Reflexology is that the body is divided into 10 zones, 5 on the right side of the body and 5 on the left, these zones run longitudinally through the body from hand and feet to head.  Any organs along these lines have a reflex area in the same zone in the feet.

If the flow of energy is restricted in any way then this results in calcified deposits settling in the feet - working the affected reflex areas can release these blockages.
