On Wednesday, June 29th over twenty Council officers workers
and other volunteers (including Councillor Christine Wright and Councillor
Ryan) came together for a “Neighbourhood Environment day” in the Devonshire
Road Rock Gardens.
The aim of the event (which went from 10 O'clock in the morning till 4.0'clock
in the afternoon) was to help clean up the park by picking up litter, cleaning
up the ponds and a load of pruning and weeding.
As well as some qualified gardening staff were volunteers from other
departments all working together to make a difference.
Sadly not many members of the public turned up but in the course of the day we
spoke to many visitors to the park, many of whom showed an interest in being a
part of the planned re actvation of the "Friends of the Rock Gardens"
group.
The weather kept fine and sunny for us all day and a massive amount of work was
achieved.
A special thanks must go to all who attended and especially to
James Kelly who organised and coordinated the whole event.
A good and rewarding time was had by all.
Here are some pictures of the day.
