On Thursday 14th of October we hosted our third
private tenants information events in the Horseshoe area of the Winter Gardens.
There were about 35 different agencies on hand to offer help and advice to the
private sector tenants of Blackpool agencies represented covered a wide
spectrum and these included such as Citizens Advice, Trading Standards, Hosing,
Care and Repair, Age Concern, Library Services, Fire, Police, solicitors and
many more. One of the most sought after stands was the Credit union and illegal
money lending stand that had several members of the public signing up to join
the Credit Union thus taking business away from loan sharks.
We had hoped to have lots more people through the doors than
the previous event but despite all our publicity the numbers of visitors were
about the same as the two previous events. The difference this time was that
most of the visitors were local people and more people were genuinely seeking
advice rather than just visiting the stands.
We were slightly disappointed that a few of the agencies
that had booked a place did not turn up, especially some of the NHS health
teams which should have been there to give people free health checks, but on
the whole it was a successful day for most of the agencies.
Our thanks go out to the staff of the Winter Gardens for
their co-operation both before and on the day.
We also say thank you to all the agencies who took the time
to put on a stand in order to help what is a difficult to reach sector of the
community in the private tenant.
We would also like to thank all the volunteers of the
Federation who turned out to marshall the event and to stand outside on such a
cold day handing out flyers in the streets.
