A Carer is someone who supports a relative, spouse, partner or friend who cannot manage on his or her own. You do not have to live with the person, nor do you have to be the only person who does the caring.
When you become a Carer there are some things that you should do straight away:
* obtain a CARERS EMERGENCY CARD which makes sure that , if you are involved in an accident or are taken ill suddenly, that arrangements can be made to look after the person you care for. You can apply for an Emergency Card by contacting the Carers Team on 01253 651486,

Age Concern and Shop Mobility can help you to fill in the forms which can be complicated.
