Blackpool's innovative proposal entered into the the ODPM's (Office of the Deputy Prime Minister) 'Digital Challenge' has not been chosen to go forward to the National Heats.
The title 'C-Side' refers to community, but we emphasised the importance of personalisation and the individual. Here is a graphic of the badges we all wore.........'this time it's personal' is a exactly what the whole presentation emphasises.
The winning bids in the local heats came from:
- One Manchester (digital action zones)
- Halton Borough Council actually who were representing Liverpool City Regions (grid computing) supported by the Merseyside DDA
Halton Council on behalf of the Greater Merseyside Digital Development Agency
"IMAGINE" - a DIGITALLY INCLUSIVE SOCIETY - engaged, enabled, enhanced, empowered ("IMAGINE" - Empowering Ethel )
Our Vision is simple
- a utility computing environment in which - participation in, creation of and access to - on-line content is as easy as switching on a light - providing everyone with the opportunity, tools and skills to transform their lives socially, economically - forever. There will be no digital divide; everyone will actively participate in the information age, regardless of personal circumstances.
Our utilities are taken for granted but we rely heavily on the benefits - warmth, heat and light - these are integral to our daily lives. Our Vision creates a FIFTH UTILITY - the digital benefits of which are endless.

Blackpool 'C' side is all about Community
Blackpool's bid is called "C" Side (Oh I do like to be beside....). Our bid is based around an existing set of partnerships and will bring together stakeholders, local and regional organisations, national and international players to e-enable the Fylde. The bid will allow us to extend infrastructure, offer choice and share our ideas.
