Digital Challenge (updated)

Digital community transformation.

The government supported Digital Challenge aims to get "a region, city or similar sized area to drive forward the use of technologies to better meet the needs of its local community and individual citizens". Community and voluntary organisations were involved in partnership bids to create digital transformation for their community. A series of regional seminars took place around England around mid-February.

Blackpool Council, as part of the eCommunity Partnership will took part in the Digital Challenge. We managed to make the regional heats but were knocked out at that level (unofficially - the Peer Review knocked us out). Manchester and Liverpool won through.

Both bids are available on the web, but in a 'nutshell', Manchester proposed a bid based on much of their work done over the last few yaers in Tameside.

Liverpool's bid was based on a a scheme to roll out 'network PC'. Liverpools bid failed at the national heat.

Manchester is now through to the final 10.

So - what hoops do they now have to jump through (good luck Manchester!)
