Young People's Group
The Young People's Wildlife Group, based at Stanley Park, is made up of a number of young Millennium Volunteers.

The group meet once a month on a Saturday at Blackpool Volunteer Centre and take part in a number of activities together like making cards, decorating flower pots, planting bulbs in the Greenhouses and creating flower arrangements. Members of the group also visit the Volunteer Centre in the week during their free time.

They are taking part in the Heritage Project by restoring a small plot of land at Blackpool Volunteer Centre, creating a small garden and rockery. They have made bird boxes and bird feeders for the garden, with the help of the project's Gardening volunteers, to help with the conservation of the Park's wildlife.

  • Written lists of the items they will need to buy and how much they will cost, such as rocks for the rockery and top-soil for the plants.
  • Researched which plants and flowers to have in the garden.
  • Visited a Garden Centre to collect more information and ideas.
  • Written articles about the garden for a Newsletter and the website.

They have successfully obtained 2 grants for the project, one for £280 and another for £160.
This money has been used to cover the expenses of the rocks and plants for the garden.

Mosaic Project June 2008

The Young Peoples Group have also been invloved in creating a piece of mosaic sculpture.

We hope to display the sculpture in Stanley Park.

With the help of a student volunteer, Gemma, they have produced a beatuiful Oak tree leaf, based on ealier artwork and research they carried out.

The design also incorporates some of the Parks features, such as the Clock Tower and an image of a butterfly, representing the wildlife that can be found in the Park.

The Group also produced mini mosaics and decorated plant pots during the Mosaic Project and were involved in a number of other arts and crafts activites.

Here are a few more pictures of the mosaic and volunteers, taken during the project.

Residential to Borwick Hall June 2008

As part of the Mosaic Project, and part of their Youth Achievement Award work, members of the Young Peoples Group spent the weekend on a Residential trip to Borwick Hall in Carnforth.

They took part in outdoor actitives, like climbing to the top of a Pamper Pole, and went on trips to explore the local area, such as a seaside visit to Morecambe.

They also produced some more artwork for the Mosaic Project, making sculptures out of Salt Dough.

Everyone involved with the trip had lots of fun and spending the weekend together was a great chance for the Group to socialise with each other.
