What are Local Strategic Partnerships?

Government policy has stipulated that local partnerships should be established to tackle hardship and poverty in the most deprived areas of the country. These partnerships would be allocated government funds to spend to help them in this task.

Each Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) should bring together the public sector, the private sector and the voluntary & community sector (referred to as the Third sector). Blackpool has its own LSP Assembly committed to regenerating and renewing the town.

The government has recognised that in order to bring about policies, projects and services that people really want, need and will use, it is essential to involve the Third sector. Involving the community at all levels is not an easy task. Some people and groups are organised, articulate and confident enought to get involved if they wish. However, others need more support and encouragement to do this. Community Empowerment Networks have been created for this purpose.
