Countdown to the next Local Elections, and the chance to boot out the Tories!

BLACKPOOL LABOUR GROUP

Our ambitions for Blackpool and its people are huge.  Below is the manifesto on which we fought the 2007 Local Elections, and the policies which will inform our period of opposition.  We have left this manifesto online so that people can be clear about how WE would be running Blackpool, and compare it to the way that the Tories are running our town.

Manifesto for 2007 Municipal Elections

"A healthier, safer, greener, educated, leading resort, needs the best services. It is people who deliver services and Blackpool Labour is committed to ensuring that the Labour Council maintains the best possible employment practices to ensure that its workforce is highly motivated and flexible.

This manifesto has set out our priorities for the next four years. Above all else we make the following Eight Guarantees that residents can be certain we will deliver.

1) Continually Low Council Tax
We will make sure that this does not cost you the earth. The Labour Council has ensured that a typical Blackpool household has paid the lowest Council tax in Lancashire for eight consecutive years. Blackpool Labour is committed to keeping it that way. We want good value services delivered to the people of Blackpool by the people of Blackpool.

2) Free educational visits for School Children.
We know how inconvenient it can be for parents who constantly receive requests for donations toward school visits. The Labour Council will transfer funds to school accounts in the expectation that they will cover the cost of at least one school visit per year.

3) Alleygates for all
Where residents want them, all adopted back allies will be gated at no direct cost to residents. We will also ensure that a cost effective scheme is available for unadopted alleys as well.

4) A mini-police station for all wards
Labour will provide a local base for your community police officers with drop in facilities for holding residents meetings to bring about crime reduction and bear down on anti-social behaviour in all its forms.

5) Unrivalled events programme
We will commit to the sustainable development of at least four specific annual events, such as the fireworks championships, that will become nationally significant, enjoyable for local residents and boosting the number of visitors to the resort.

6) New for old Street Lighting
All old and worn out street lighting will be replaced to modern brighter standards

7) Problem property crackdown
New laws will quickly be used to crackdown on the landlords of problem properties

8) A Carbon Neutral Council
We will ensure the Council greatly reduces its own energy consumption and generates Clean and Green electricity for Council property and facilities."
