AFRA (Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre African Caribbean Friends and Relations Association) hosted a Black History Month Celebration of Music, Culture and Friendship, on Thursday 18th October. The event took place in the Sponsors Lounge of Blackpool Football Club on Seasiders Way.

Members of the Fylde Coast’s African-Caribbean Community and the Mayor of Blackpool, Cllr Robert Wynne, Chair of Blackpool Council Ethnic Minorities Liaison Group, Cllr Mary Smith and guests from Preston's Nguzo Saba Centre attended.

AFRA organised a programme to mark the occasion, which was opened by the Mayor of Blackpool Cllr Robert Wynne and the Mayoress Gaynor Wynne. There were musical performances from the Hi-Tech Steel Band and our very own Stro Marley.
Looking Back Going Forward (young people from Preston’s Nguzo Saba Centre) were present with excerpts from their multi-media theatre presentations, a stall and dance displays which were very informative, colourful and fun.
omar Other displays on Black History and Culture included Blackpool's Gambia Schools Project with school’s updates, musical instruments (members and guests tried their hand at drumming) and artefacts from Gambia and more.
