Joan Humble, Member of Parliament for Blackpool North and Fleetwood has backed calls for the Competition Commission to conduct a full investigation into the market for gas and electricity.
Mrs Humble said:
"The recent price hikes from many energy companies have placed vulnerable consumers in real difficulties. In spite of the fact that the regulator Ofgem can make a referral to the Competition Commission it has failed to do so. There are concerns that the way the big six companies are organised reduces effective competition. Now MP’s are calling on the Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform to instruct the Competition Commission to conduct a full market investigation and where necessary take action to increase competition."
