Joan Humble, MP for Blackpool North and Fleetwood speaking in the House of Commons today urged the Secretary of State at the Department for Innovation, Universities & Skills to advertise and promote the Government’s new and exciting package on student support to ensure full take up by the time of the UCAS deadline next week.
Mrs Humble added:
"The Government has made available more grants so that over 100,000 more students will receive a full or partial non-repayable grant. Students from families with incomes of up to £25,000 will be entitled to full grants and those from a family with a household income of £40,000 a year will get an extra £1,000 a year.
It is important that potential students are aware of those changes as the deadline approaches for applications to start University in September.
I am pleased that Bill Rammell the Higher Education Minister confirmed that the Government is advertising these changes and that he anticipates that two thirds of eligible full-time students are now expected to get a full or partial non-repayable maintenance grant.
I hope that more young people from families where no-one has ever attended University will now feel able to apply".
