I-CAN (Interactive Community Access Network) is a project partly funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF - Europe in other words).
There is further information under 'Detail' but the basic project is simply described here.
I-CAN is planned to serve the community of Blackpool by providing not only the means, but also the access to online information about Blackpool. By providing training we are also encouraging people to become involved themselves rather than simply be recipients of information.
I-CAN is about sharing, and in part the 'I' of I-CAN, the Interactivity, is the key. I-CAN will be accessible from any computer on the Council network, by home users on broadband and by organisations and groups with good internet access. In addition, I-CAN has provided kiosks in the town centre 'Customer First' facility at the Municipal Buildings as well as funding six internet access kiosks across the town.
