The Fairtrade launch at the Solaris Centre, held on 24th October 2008, went very well.
Joy Bosworth, chair of BAF gave a PP presentation to the invited guests who were representatives of various bodies and organisations within the town including: the national Government, NHS, Council (both elected members and staff),lCVS, local clergy, schools, Co-op Blackpool & Lancaster Member Relations Committee, B&F College amongst others.
Two delegates from Beacon Hill School’s Young Co-op ended the presentation by explaining how their group, Blackpool’s first Young Co-op, works to promote Fairtrade which also broadens their education and increases skills in business and communication.
A very enjoyable Fairtrade buffet was provided by the Council’s catering services courtesy of the Solaris Centre. This is the first Council venue to commit to using Fairtrade products. In addition to tea and coffee bearing the Fairtrade mark being served to guests and sold in the café, bananas, biscuits and Geobars are also on sale at the centre.
As the building is an award winning sustainability centre and educational resource, Fairtrade is part of their ethos and also a logical step in their campaign for a Climate for change. There will be a Fairtrade display at the Solaris Centre for the next month, whilst their Fairtrade commitment will continue.
