Who are we?
The Mobility Panel was created to address mobility and access issues in Blackpool, and allied itself to the Equalities Forum (there are Equailties Forum representatives on the panel and vice-versa).
We have regular representation from the transport departments and various groups such as MIND, British Polio Fellowship, Age Concern and the Blind Society to name but a few.
There is also a representative of a local Residents Association and one from the Patient Public Involvement and Primary Care Trust Forums.
What do we do?
We deal with all access and mobility issues - not just for the disabled but also for mothers with prams and young children and those with learning difficulties or other access issues. It covers a wide spectrum.
We are consulted by various groups, including Blackpool Council and Blackpool Transport on plans such as the closure of the rural Post Offices and have produced in-depth reports on the relocation of the main Post Office to WHSmiths and the new road layout in Layton.
We have various working groups within the panel and they meet to work on different aspects of our remit and specific consultations.
Currently, we are looking at the Foxhall Area Action Plan project and the redevelopment of St. Johns, Cedar Square.
