What is Leonard Cheshire?

Former World War Two hero Leonard Cheshire founded the charity that bears his name in 1948. Today, Leonard Cheshire is the UK's leading provider of disability support services, amd campaigns on the rights of disabled people. Globally the charity continues to pioneer new projects and services.

Leonard Cheshire exists to change attitudes to disability and to serve disabled people around the world. The charity supports over 21,000 disabled people in the UK, offering flexible services to meet a wide range of needs, and supports many thousands more through Cheshire organisations in 53 countries around the world. Leonard Cheshire has 8000 staff and over 6000 volunteers in the UK.

More than 85% of our service users in the UK live in their own homes. The Care at Home Service in the North West covers Preston, Blackburn, Lancaster, South Cumbria, Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre and supports disabled and elderly people, children and their families and people with mental health needs. We support around 130 people across the Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre areas, enabling them to remain independent and live in their own homes.
