Leonard Cheshire promotes diversity in volunteering and welcomes volunteer applications from all sections of the community. In fact, whatever your background, we can put your skills to good use.
You do not need to have any experience of working with people with disabilities, but you should be committed to the rights of disabled people to participate in society and make choices about their lives.
Volunteers should be friendly and understanding, reliable and responsible, and should have good communication skills.
We suggest that befriending and enabling volunteers should ideally be able to commit to their role for a minimum of six months to provide some continuity for the service user.
We can offer volunteering opportunities to fit in with your busy schedule, whether you have a few hours each week or just a couple of hours each month to spare.
