Campaigning
Leonard Cheshire is committed to empowering and supporting disabled people to lobby individually and collectively for positive change.
Working alongside disabled people we seek to secure a fully inclusive and accessible society with disability equality, social inclusion and social justice. We campaign on issues that affect disabled people across the UK, such as inaccessible transport, access to healthcare, welfare and benefits and social care provision.
There are many ways that volunteers can get involved in campaigning and raising public awareness of disability issues, including organising and/or publicising events to highlight issues raised by our service users, or joining in with national campaigns. For example, on Make a Difference Day in October 2006, Leonard Cheshire service users, staff and volunteers took part in a nationwide survey of disabled people's access to cash and spending, visiting shops, banks and ATMs, praising positive practice and highlighting improvements that could be made to their accessibility for people with a range of disabilities.
If you would like to participate in the Access to Transport campaign in October 2007 and help make a difference to disabled people in your community, please email Natalie or phone 01772 772 207.
