Leonard Cheshire's North West Community Services (North) is looking for volunteers to link up with disabled adults and children and to spend a little time with them, perhaps once a week or once a fortnight, and support them with social and leisure activities.
The disabled service users involved in this scheme may be socially isolated and may find it difficult to go out into the community and get involved in the activities they would like to do, and a visit from a friendly volunteer could make a real difference to their lives.
What kind of activities could I get involved in?
In short, just about anything! The disabled people we support have a range of interests and hobbies, just as much as any other cross-section of the population. Volunteers with all sorts of skills and interests are welcome!
Some activities which our service users have asked for volunteers to support them with include:
- Shopping
- Going to the cinema
- Walking to the park
- Visiting for a chat
- Playing Scrabble
- Going to Big Band concerts
- Meals out

Volunteers who can drive and have access to a vehicle are particularly welcome, as some disabled people may find it difficult to use public transport.
