New CCTV Camera in Bispham Village
Because of the problems with anti-social behaviour in Bispham Village, especially at night, a large number of residents asked Councillor Kath Rowson if the old and failing CCTV camera could be replaced. Kath responded to these concerns, and those of the 72% of Bispham residents who replied to the Crime Survey that Joan Humble MP sent out last Spring, saying that they wanted to see more CCTV cameras in the area.
A new camera, funded from the Councillors Ward Budget, was erected in December and is connected to the control room in town so that operators can monitor the Village. It has been re-sited at the opposite side of the car park to give a wider view of the area, and the pictures are now exceptionally clear – even when it is “zoomed in” close enough to read notices in shop windows.
Conservatives Support Blackpool Transport Cutting Services and Jobs!
At the November Council Meeting, Labour Councillors put forward a motion calling for Blackpool Transport to rethink their plans to cut bus services and axe 60 jobs. The ruling Conservative Councillors showed how little they care by voting AGAINST this, and thereby supporting the cuts!!
The Labour Government is giving an extra £1.3million to the three Fylde coast authorities to fund concessionary fares in 2010/11, but both the Conservatives and Blackpool Transport continue to blame pensioners’ free fares for the cuts. Labour Councillors condemned this unfair attitude, but the Conservatives remained unmoved.
Keeping In Touch
Once again Kath Rowson and Joan Humble held regular surgeries and attended many meetings and events in Ingthorpe ward throughout last year. They also held their annual walkabout to meet as many residents as possible. Unfortunately it’s impossible to meet everyone, but Joan and Kath can always be contacted on the numbers shown overleaf.
Kath and Joan also responded to numerous concerns that residents brought to their attention during 2009. One of these was the deterioration of the locker room and changing facilities at Moor Park Baths. Kath and Joan visited the baths in September to look at the problems and discuss the improvements needed with Council Officers. They revisited a few weeks later to ensure that the promised work had been carried out, and were pleased to see that 5,000 wall, ceiling and floor tiles had been replaced and clothes hangers and lockers had been repaired. The promised installation of a vanity section in the unisex locker area, featuring large mirrors and hairdryers, had also been completed.
Swine Flu
For most people, swine flu is mild and generally lasts for around a week displaying the usual flu symptoms. As with other strains of flu, people who have long-term health conditions, who are pregnant, or whose immune system is affected by a disease or treatment for a disease are more likely to be seriously ill.
The seasonal flu vaccines that have already been given don’t protect against swine flu, so a new vaccine has been developed. If you are among the people with a condition that could cause serious problems if you caught swine flu, you should by now have been offered the vaccination. If you haven’t, you are advised contact your GP immediately.
Free TV Collection Extended
Due to the overwhelming success of the free TV collection service the council provided after the digital switchover, the TV amnesty will continue until the end of March. If you have an old TV that you would like removed, please ring Blackpool 477477.
