Summer 2006

Keeping in touch ALL year, not just at Elections

Increased Police Presence in Ingthorpe

Councillor Kath Rowson was delighted to officially hand over the keys to the new Ward based Police office in Kincraig Place recently, as “Police on our streets where they’re needed” has been one of her successful campaigns. As soon as it is opened, residents will be able to call in and speak to the police about local matters.

This will compliment the high visibility the police now have in the Ward. Thanks to the continued efforts of your Labour Councillors working closely with the Police, we now have a Community Policemen, Community Support Officer and a Special Constable patrolling our streets.

Kath continues to attend the monthly P.A.C.T (Police and Community Together) meetings held on the first Wednesday of each month at Whiteholme Community Centre, All Saints Road at 5.30pm. These meetings are your chance to discuss any police related matters/problems in the area, so please do attend if you have any concerns.

Kath is once again organising this popular competition. The entry form can be found on page 3. Gook luck to all competitors, and thanks for bringing colour to our area.

Skate Board Park

The very frustrating delay, because of world shortage of steel, is finally over, and work has started on the new Skate Board Park on Moor Park Avenue. Thanks to a great deal of work on the part of Kath Rowson and the Ingthorpe North Tenants & Residents Association, we should soon have this much needed facility for older children in the area.

Clean Neighbourhoods Act

The Government’s Clean Neighbourhood and Environment Act 2005 has given greater powers to local authorities. Kath has lead a Scrutiny on Litter Enforcement to investigate what Blackpool Council can do to combat the problems caused by people who selfishly blight our town with their rubbish which costs millions of pounds of Council Tax payers money to clean up every year.  In future anyone seen dropping litter, or not picking up after their dog, will be fined £75, and fly tippers can now be fined up to £50,000 with possible seizure of the vehicle used. The dumping of just one bag or item of furniture can be counted as fly tipping. More Council Officers are now qualified to issue the fines, and they won’t hesitate to do so. Your Labours Councillors, along with the majority of residents, welcome this clampdown on the minority who selfishly litter our area and cost us money.

Ingthorpe Road Safety

Kath and Mick, along with many residents, have been concerned for some time about the dangers caused by speeding cars in the area. New road signs, “Twenty is Plenty”, have been ordered for the worst affected residential streets. If you feel there is a problem on your street, phone Kath on 356866 and she will arrange for Highways to check if it meets the criteria for one of these traffic signs.

Your Councillors have also continued to press for repairs and traffic calming measures on many of the roads in the area, and are to be congratulated on their success. If you have potholes in your road, please contact Kath Rowson on 356866 and she will try to get them repaired as soon as possible.
