Keeping in touch ALL year, not just at Elections
Spring 2008

Blackpool Council Tax is no longer the lowest in Lancashire!
Despite receiving an extra 7% from the Government, the Conservatives have imposed an above inflation rise on residents. Labour had consistently kept Blackpool’s Council Tax the lowest in Lancashire, but in their first budget the Conservative Councillors have shown how little they care about residents on a limited income.
Friends of Kincraig Lake
The newly formed Friends of Kincraig Lake wasted no time in starting to make a difference to the registered biological heritage site that they want to restore to its former glory. They organised a litter pick in April to clear up litter and fly tipping in the area
Eleven hard-working volunteers, including our MP, Joan Humble, and founder member of the Friends Group Councillor Kath Rowson, removed almost one ton of litter and fly-tipping from in and around the lake during the two hour litter pick - and there is still a lot more work to be done.
A large number of empty bottles and cans were removed from both in and around the lake. As the site is one of the areas in Blackpool covered by a street drinking prohibition order, the police will be monitoring this and will take appropriate action if anyone is found drinking.
If you want to take part in this year's National Moth Night, you are very welcome to join us at Kincraig Lake on Saturday 7th June from 9.30pm to midnight.
Blackpool Council's Sustainability Manager, Dave McGrath, and members of the Ranger Service will be running light traps to record the different species of moths in the area.
Kilmory and Dumfries Ponds
The Friends of Kincraig Lake have also added the ponds on Dumfries Close and Kilmory Place (behind the Community Centre) to the areas they want to improve. Kath Rowson has met with Community Volunteer Services and arranged for Kilmory pond to be cleaned up and for the seating area around it to be repaired so that residents can use it this summer. Kath also asked for the area around the pond at Dumfries Close to be cleaned up.
