Update May 2008

A moth recording event is being held on National Moth Night at Kincraig Lake on Saturday 7th June from 9.30pm to midnight.
Blackpool Council's Sustainability Manager, Dave McGrath, and members of the Ranger Service will be running light traps to record the different species of moths in the area.

The Friends of Kincraig Lake are having a stall at the Neighbourhood Fun Day on Thursday 29th May at Kincraig School from 11am to 1pm.  They hope to talk to as many people as possible about the group and their plans to improve the lake and surrounding area.

Update April 2008

The newly formed Friends of Kincraig Lake are wasting no time in starting to make a difference to the registered biological heritage site that they want to restore to its former glory.  They organised a litter pick on Saturday 12th April to clear up litter and fly tipping that not only blights the area, but causes harm to the resident wildlife.

Eleven hard-working volunteers, including Blackpool North and Fleetwood MP, Joan Humble, and founder member Councillor Kath Rowson, removed almost one ton of litter and fly-tipping from in and around the lake during the two hour litter pick - and there is still more work to be done.  It is very sad that people continue to blight such a lovely area, and the Friends of Kincraig Lake hope that the offenders will think twice about polluting the lake now that it is being cleaned up.

A large number of empty bottles and cans were removed from both in and around the lake.  As the site is one of the areas in Blackpool covered by a street drinking prohibition order, the police will be monitoring this and will take appropriate action if anyone is found drinking.

Update: March 2008

At the second meeting on February 26th, the Constitution and banking detail were agreed so that the group could start to apply for funding.

It was also agreed to hold a Litter Pick around the lake on Saturday 12th April from 1pm to 3pm.  Blackpool North & Fleetwood MP, Joan Humble, will be attending the event to help with the litter pick and learn more about the Friends of Kincraig Lake.

The next meeting will be held on Monday 31st March at 6pm at Stronsay Place Community Centre.  For more information please contact Allan Burton on Blackpool 590632.

Update: February 2008

At the first meeting on January 29th, a small, but enthusiastic, group of residents officially formed the Friends of Kincraig Lake.

A committee was elected and everyone agreed that the first priority was new paths around the lake to enable access for pushchairs, elderly and disabled people.  Once a constitution has been written and a bank account opened, the group will start trying to access funding as it will cost a great deal of money to bring the paths up to a good standard.  It was also agreed that regular litter picks would be a good start to improving the area.

The next meeting will take place on Tuesday 26th February at 6pm at Stronsay Place Community Centre.  For more information please contact the Chair of the Group, Allan Burton, on Blackpool 590632.
