BLACKPOOL’S SUPERCASINO BID FAILS
The Conservative Group on Blackpool Council had challenged the Labour led Council for details of their alternative plans, should the bid fail, but there was no alternative plan. The bid was a huge gamble and the victim of its failure is Blackpool’s regeneration. Blackpool needs a Conservative controlled Council, which would have sound, sensible policies to revitalise Blackpool’s economy.
HOME CARE
Home care is part of Blackpool Council’s provision for care at home to support elderly and vulnerable people. In October 2006, the maximum time for shopping and domestic activities was cut to a maximum of 1 hour a week. The Conservative Group on Blackpool Council objected to this draconian move, but we were defeated by the Labour Councillors who voted for it.
CHRISTMAS WHEELIE BIN COLLECTIONS
Councillor Henry Mitchell won the argument to have extra bags of refuse collected over the Christmas period. Henry’s sensible campaign finally won the support of everyone. For once, commonsense prevailed.
BISPHAM WARD BUDGET ALLOCATIONS
Councillor Don Clapham and Councillor Henry Mitchell have used the final funds from the Bispham Ward allocation to provide:-
£1,200 for the purchase and erection of poles and a noticeboard for Cavendish Road Park
£700 for the purchase of new books for Bispham Library
£200 for financial support for projects controlled by the Committee of the Friends of Cavendish Road Park
PARK AND RIDE
Councillor Henry Mitchell proposed that, as a matter or urgency, one or more viable costed options for Park and Ride Schemes should be produced. The Labour Councillors defeated this proposal, even though Blackpool is suffering from gridlocked traffic and transportation problems
CLIFF PLACE
After thorough investigations, the Officers decided that a Residents’ Parking Scheme would reduce the number of parking spaces currently available. On these grounds, the Officers rejected the “Residential Only” parking scheme.
RED BANK ROAD – STREET SCENE IMPROVEMENTS
Planters and benches have been placed at the western end of Red Bank Road to help improve the environment for everyone. These have been welcomed by shopkeepers and residents. Following their success, more planters are on order, and these will be installed lower down Red Bank Road later this year.
NEAT TEAM CLEAN-UP – REAR RED BANK ROAD
In January 2007, we requested that a huge clean-up operation of brambles, rubble, tipped materials, etc. should be carried out by Blackpool’s NEAT team in one of the alleys located behind Red Bank Road. The NEAT team did a great job of clearing the alley.
