The result of the Election on 3rd May 2007.

People voting by post formed an amazing 43% of the total who voted.

The Result

Cllr Fred Jackson (Labour):        783 votes
Cllr David Owen (Labour):          660 votes

Sam Bell (Tory):                    528 votes
Bryan Horne (Tory):              523 votes

Ian Coleman (LibDem):          467 votes

Fred Jackson and I thank warmly the electors of Victoria Ward for electing them to represent them on Blackpool Council for four more years.  Sadly, the Labour Group of Councillors suffered a battering on 3 May when too many Labour supporters in other parts of the town stayed at home on Election Day.  The number of Labour Councillors fell from 25 to 13 (very unlucky) and control of the Council passed from Labour to the Tories.

We shall all be doing our best to make the plans Labour has had for our town over recent years come true in spite of the change in control locally. And, at least as important, we must ensure we retain our local Labour MPs when the General Election comes round in the next couple of years.
