Important News for Postal Voters
All existing postal voters now have to complete a simple form giving their date of birth and a fresh signature. These forms have already been sent out and if you haven’t already sent yours back, you should do as soon as possible to ensure that you will still receive your postal vote.
Although no postal vote fraud has been detected in Blackpool, these are measures recently introduced by law to make postal voting even more secure.
At election time, when you receive your postal ballot paper, as always it will include a simple statement for you to confirm your identity. To do this, you need to sign the form and also provide your date of birth. You do not need a witness to sign the statement.
When we receive your postal vote, the elections staff will compare your signature and date of birth on the statement against your application to check the details match. The statement will then be filed away separately before your ballot paper is opened. To keep your vote secret, the two documents will never be visible at the same time.
Anyone can now apply for a postal vote. Why not join the growing number of people already taking advantage of this facility ?
If you have not already applied for a postal vote and would like to do so please contact the Electoral Services Office on 477161 or 477490.
