Simon has joined forces with local residents to petition the Council to provide Residents Only parking on Victory Road.
"I've sent our petition, signed by a large proportion of the residents in Victory Road, off to the Council tonight. I've offered to use part of my £10,000 delegated budget to part-fund the scheme, and asked them to do a 'Parking Beat Survey' as soon as possible"
"This survey will tell the Council what we already know - that people from all over are using Victory Road as a Car Park - even for the Town Centre! After they've done this survey, I want them to sit down with local residents and work out how we can get this sorted"
"I want to thank everyone on Victory Road for their overwhelming support, and promise to keep you updated with what happens next."
UPDATED 01.07.07 - Your petition has been sent off to the Council, lets wait and see what they are going to do for us!!!
UPDATED 30.07.07 - The Councillor in charge of Parkrite - Cllr Ian Fowler, has sent me an e-mail telling me that the Council HAS now agreed to do a proper Parking Beat Survey to assess the problems on Victory Road! Fantastic News - this should be done towards the end of August, and I've asked that once the results are known, a meeting be organised to discuss what they're going to do about it! Watch this space! Thanks again for all the support - lets hope it pays off.
UPDATED 09.10.07 - The Parking Beat Survey has now been completed, and I am awaiting the results. A leaflet will be sent to all homes on Victory Road as soon as we know the outcome! Fingers Crossed!
UPDATED 16.11.07 - Despite repeated assurances from the Councillor in charge of Parking - I've STILL not been told what the outcome of the Council's Parking survey was - 4 months after we sent the petition in! I'll be asking questions next week about this, so watch this space!
UPDATED 03.03.08 - One of Cllr Fowler's officers has agreed to meet with residents to discuss their findings - I'm in the process of organising the meeting, and will leaflet the residents of Victory Road to let them know where and when it will be!
UPDATED 18.03.08 - Unfortunately, the Council Officer in question has now refused to attend an open meeting, saying that he doesn't think it would be 'representative'. I am now going to have to wait until a change in the law, later on this year, allows me to raise this matter as a 'Councillors Call for Action' - meanwhile, I will be sending a leaflet out to homes in Victory Road over the weekend to set out for them the basis for the Council's refusal to act, and what we are going to do next! This isn't the end of the road though - we'll keep fighting until we win.
