Saying NO to demolition!

The Residents Association and I have found out to our horror that someone from the Council has asked a so-called ‘regeneration consultant’ to visit our estate, to consider what could be done with the site if the Tower Blocks were demolished!  I don’t know who is behind this, but I will find out!

I doubt very much if these barmy plans will come to anything (especially after the Council has spent so much doing up the outside of the blocks, and has promised us new kitchens and bathrooms!) But just in case you were worried – let me set your mind at rest:

(1)   Blackpool could not cope without the many hundreds of properties on Queens Park.

(2)   There is no other form of housing which could accommodate as many people as the blocks do.

(3)   I am an unpaid Director of Blackpool Coastal Housing, as is Gwen King, the Chairman of your Residents Association – and we would do everything in our power to block these proposals.

(4)   There is no way that the Tory Council could force such moves through before May 2011, when we intend to win back control of the Town Hall.

As you know, a lot of work has gone on in recent years to make Queens Park a better place to live.  There is a lot more work to do.  With your help, we can achieve it.  Say no to demolition – say Yes to building a bright new future!  I’ll keep you posted through my surgeries at Walter Robinson Court, and at our regular meetings.  Feel free to phone me if you’ve got any queries (07930) 44 11 93
