Following the passing of Les Kersh on 20th April, a By-Election has been held in Park Ward. The Labour Party Candidate, Roy Fisher (pictured) fought a superb campaign, focusing on the issues which matter most to the people of the area.
Unfortunately, due entirely to the national political situation (you may have noticed that things haven't been going too well for us recently down there in London!) we weren't able to fight off a strong challenge from the Tories (who seemed, all of a sudden, to take a great interest in the people of Park Ward - can't say I remember campaigning very hard there in the past...).
Councillor Callow and his mates will no doubt try to pass this result off as some sort of vindication for the policies he's been pursuing for the last 13 months - but that's not my view. I welcome newly elected Cllr. Collins to the Council, and hope he enjoys the next 3 years, until the next elections, because that's as long as he's going to be there!
Meanwhile, my colleague Cllr. Brian Doherty will continue to keep the Red Flag flying over Park Ward!
