Defending the Beat Bobby
I am very concerned to learn that plans may be afoot to cut back on Policing levels in Brunswick Ward.
I've been told that within the next couple of weeks, our Beat Bobbies (Community Beat Managers) are going to be taken out of the area at the weekends, and placed on foot patrol in the Town Centre.
This simply isn't on - the people of Brunswick should not have to accept a second class Police response because of drunks - most of whom don't even live in Blackpool - fighting in Talbot Square on a Friday and Saturday night. If we need more Police in the town centre, we should employ them (why don't the people selling them the booze chip in a few quid each?)
I have written to the Chief Constable of Lancashire, and the Home Secretary down in London, asking for reassurances that these plans WON'T go ahead, and that our Beat Bobbies should stay where we (and they, I'm sure) want to be - in Brunswick.
